How this works
What goes into an llms.txt
A title, one sentence of context, the key pages as a list, and guidance on what the source is good for. The format is Markdown and deliberately short: it does not replace a sitemap, it tells a model which of your many pages are the authoritative ones.
The part almost everyone omits
Most llms.txt files are marketing copy in list form. The file only becomes useful through the boundary: what your source is NOT right for. A model that knows when not to suggest you suggests you more precisely when it does.
Not a Google standard
llms.txt is a community proposal, not an official specification, and it means nothing to Google. Other systems and agents increasingly read it. The effort is small enough to be worth it — but it is no substitute for robots.txt, a sitemap or decent content.

- Does an llms.txt improve rankings?
- No. It affects neither Google Search nor guarantees citations. It is an orientation signal — useful when the rest is in order, useless when crawlers are blocked or the content only appears through JavaScript.
- How often should I update it?
- Whenever your key pages or your offering change. An outdated llms.txt is worse than none, because it sends models to pages that no longer exist.
- Are my inputs stored?
