We asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity twelve questions a buyer of GEO software would ask, eight in English and four in German, and counted which tools the answers named. Peec AI was named in 29 of 48 answers, followed by Profound, Semrush and Otterly.ai with 25 each. Our own product, GEO Tool, was named in 2 of 48, both in German answers. We publish the result anyway, including the raw data, because a ranking you can check is worth more than one you have to trust.
Measured on October 14, 2026. One run per question and assistant. Raw data: ai-visibility-index-2026-10.csv.
Method
- Assistants and models: ChatGPT (gpt-5.6-sol), Claude (claude-sonnet-5-5) and Gemini (gemini-2.5-flash), each with web search enabled, plus Perplexity (sonar-pro). Gemini 3.5 Flash was rate-limited on the measurement day, so we used 2.5 Flash for all Gemini answers.
- Access: the answers were collected through a commercial LLM-response API that sends the question to each assistant without account history or personalisation.
- Counting: a tool counts as named if its brand appears anywhere in the answer. "Named first" counts the answers in which it is the first tool mentioned. Generic phrases such as "a GEO tool" were checked by hand and not counted as a mention of our product.
- Questions in English:
- What are the best GEO tools in 2026?
- Best tools to track my brand's visibility in ChatGPT and AI search?
- Peec AI vs Profound vs Otterly: which AI visibility tool should I pick?
- I run a B2B SaaS. How do I get ChatGPT to recommend my product, and which tool helps?
- Best affordable generative engine optimization software for a small marketing team?
- Is there a tool that not only measures AI visibility but also tells me what content to fix?
- Free tool to check if my website is ready for AI search engines?
- Best GEO tool for agencies managing multiple clients?
- Questions in German:
Welche Software hilft?
- Kostenloser GEO-Check für meine Website?
Limits: AI answers vary between runs, so one run per question is a sample, not a stable share of voice. Twelve questions cover the category, not every buyer. We will repeat the same questions every month; the trend will say more than this first snapshot.

Each assistant answered twelve questions, so the per-assistant columns are out of 12. The EN column is out of 32 English answers, the DE column out of 16 German answers.
Five findings
1. Four tools own the category answer
Peec AI, Profound, Semrush and Otterly.ai each appear in roughly half of all answers. Peec AI and Profound are also the tools most often named first, which in a list-shaped answer is the position that gets read.
2. Big suites borrow their brand
Semrush, Ahrefs and HubSpot are named almost as often as the specialists. Their AI visibility features are add-ons, but the assistants already know the brands, and that recognition carries over to a new category.
3. Language decides who is visible
Sistrix and GEO Tool appear only in German answers, Writesonic and Goodie almost only in English ones. A tool that is well known in one market can be invisible in the next, so measure in the languages your buyers actually use.
4. Assistants have learned to distrust vendor rankings
Claude put it plainly in one answer: "Nearly every "best GEO tool" list I found is published by a vendor that ranks itself first." Self-ranked "best of" lists still get cited in other categories, but in GEO the models already discount them. That is the main reason this index shows every result, including our own weak one.
5. Third-party sources do the work
The domains cited most often were vendor blogs and independent publications, among them semrush.com, writesonic.com, techradar.com, visible.seranking.com, blog.hubspot.com and searchengineland.com. Being listed on those pages matters more than another page on your own site.
Where GEO Tool stands
Two mentions out of 48, both in German. ChatGPT recommends GEO Tool when data protection and German hosting have top priority, and Perplexity lists geo-tool.com among the tools for measuring AI visibility in German. In the 32 English answers we do not appear at all.
Part of the cause was our own content. Our reviews of competing tools described GEO Tool as "not a monitoring product", a description that is out of date: GEO Tool now tracks your own questions across the connected AI systems, and its Autopilot drafts and publishes the fixes after your approval. Assistants read those reviews. We corrected them on the day of this measurement and will see in the next index whether that changes anything.
A look outside the category: Railway
To check whether the pattern holds elsewhere, we ran the same kind of test for cloud hosting: ten developer questions ("Where should I deploy my Node.js backend with a Postgres database?", "Best Heroku alternative in 2026?") across the same four assistants. Render was named in 32 of 40 answers, Railway in 30, Fly.io in 25. Railway publishes its own "best platforms" lists on its blog and comparison pages in its documentation, and the assistants cited both. Render does the same and even publishes comparison pages about Railway. In hosting, self-published lists still work. In GEO, where the buyers are marketers who know the tactic, the assistants have started to flag it.
How to run this check for your own brand
- Write ten to fifteen questions your buyers ask before they shortlist, with and without your category name, in every language you sell in.
- Ask each question in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity and record which brands are named and in what order.
- Write down the cited URLs. They are the pages the assistants trust in your category.
- Check your own pages first: can AI crawlers reach them, and do they state clearly what your product does? Our free GEO Score covers the technical part.
- Repeat monthly with the same questions. If you want this measured and the fixes drafted for you, see the GEO audit.

Frequently asked questions
Which GEO tool do AI assistants recommend most?
In this measurement, Peec AI: named in 29 of 48 answers and first in 12. Profound, Semrush and Otterly.ai followed with 25 each.
Why does a GEO tool vendor publish a ranking where it comes last?
Because assistants already discount vendor rankings that put the author first. A transparent method with raw data is the only kind of ranking worth citing.
How often will the index be updated?
Monthly, with the same twelve questions, so that changes can be compared.
Can I use the data?
Yes. The raw data lists every question, assistant, model, named brand and cited domain. Please link to this page as the source.
